Yes! 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive

Alex Moskalyuk posted a very interesting article with a synopsis of the 50 chapters in the book Yes!: 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive . Written by Noah Goldstein’s, Steve Martin and Robert Cialdini, this book looks like a great resource for freelance artists.

The research in the book doesn’t present you with information about how to con people, it demonstates how to be more persuasive. If anything, I’m hoping it can help you learn to present a confident and empowering self to win more clients. Let’s face it, as a freelance artist who’s family depends on me to provide for them, I’m willing to find out ways to be more persuasive.

You can pick up the printed edition of this book on Amazon.com for dirt cheap. If you are environmentally friendly or don’t have the self space for one more book, get the Kindle edition, for even cheaper. The iPhone has a Kindle app so all you iPhone users can get the Kindle edition as well.

So what do you think? Will you get the book? If you do, come back and leave a comment letting me know what you learned from the book and how you plan on using it in your day-to-day dealings with clients.

Don’t know what the Kindle is? Learn more.

Fontplore, An Interactive Font Selection Display

If you love typography and fonts , then you are going to love this interactive font selection tool, Fontplore. It’s created by students and staff at FHP to be an installation at the mæve.

Fontplore is an interactive application designed for searching and exploring font databases.Fontplore helps you to easily find the right typeface for your project in a collection of several thousands of fonts. It lets you browse, preview, compare and print the fonts you are interested in.

I’m not crazy about the objects you have to use to interact with the user interface but that’s a minor dislike. The rest looks really promising. I’m looking forward to the future of displays and how we use them in the next 10 - 20 years. I know that one day my actual desk will be an interactive monitor. Can you imagine a 52” touchscreen display, like the iPhone, to use to design and create digital art? I can hardly wait.

Andy Runton's Owly is Getting Animated

Three years ago I met Andy Runton at Heroes Con 2007 and feel in love with his little creation, Owly, a vegetarian Owl who leaves with his best-friend, Wormy. Published by Top Shelf Productions, Owly stories have no words and they are perfect for little kids to “read” the story the way they see it.

Now Owly is getting animated by Sprite Animation Studios. Check out the trailer on their site. They also havewallpapers to download, storyboards by Andy, and more detailed information about the animated short.

You can order from Amazon Owly books and Kindle Books. You and your kids will love them! If you don’t believe me then just read the reviews on Amazon.

Vote for 2 Guys on a Roof

My buddy, Wade Sellers, wrote and shot this short film about two guys on a roof arguing over who’s going to jump first. It was shot in Columbia, South Carolina. Watch the video and then head over to Funny or Die and cast your vote. Also, check out Wade’s company Web site, Coal Powered Filmworks, to see more of his work.
